Relationships (Part 4)

This morning we are going to look at the importance and function of marriage vows. Where they come from, what their purpose is, how they can help couples understand the importance of loving and serving one another, as well as how they tie into a biblical understanding of when divorce might be permissible. Paul instructs husbands to “love…nourish and cherish” their wives (Eph. 5:28-29). These are the words used in traditional vows when entering the covenant of marriage. These qualities are the foundations to a healthy marriage and without them there is a possibility of a marriage breaking down and dissolving.
