The history of the Exodus from Egypt is one of the great controlling narratives of Scripture. It is an important framework in the way we explain the Gospel and understand what it is all about. The themes of the Exodus occur again and again in Scripture, throughout almost every book from Genesis to Revelation. Listen in!

THE KINGDOM OF GOD — SALT AND LIGHT

Join us as we continue to journey through the ‘Sermon on the Mount.’ Just like God at the beginning told Adam and Eve, His image bearers, to “take dominion” over His very good creation He created for them, so Jesus gives His new creation people a vocation. We are to be salt and light. We are to be a ‘priestly people’ unto the Lord, and signposts of the Father’s love and goodness! Join us as we discover what it means to be SALT and LIGHT. Two substances that are integral to the Old Testament.

THE KINGDOM OF GOD — THE BEATITUDES

Jesus’ first ‘kingdom sermon’ begins by showing the paradoxical nature of the kingdom He was bringing. He blesses states that the kingdoms of this world do not considered ‘blessed.’ Last week we looked at the first four beatitudes. This morning we will look at the last four. “Blessed are the merciful…”, “Blessed are the pure in heart…”, “Blessed are the peacemakers…”, “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake…” Ultimately, all eight beatitudes are played out in dramatic form at Calvary by the King Himself! The first ‘kingdom sermon’ Jesus preaches in Matthew is usually referred to as “the sermon on the mount.” Jesus ascends a mountain, sits down, and begins to speak with authority about the paradoxical Kingdom of God that He was bringing, and which had already begun to take root in His ministry. He opens His sermon by simply pronouncing blessings on all sorts of states in life that many do not consider blessed. These nine blessings are referred to as “beatitudes.” Join us as we begin to dig into this powerful sermon about the Kingdom of God and look at the first four blessings of our King!

BIBLE STUDY — A HOUSE FOR MY NAME (PART 3)

Genesis 10-50 is all about the Patriarchs of Faith: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. We will especially look at how Abraham and Jacob’s story contrasts with the story of Babel. How Isaac and Jacob continue Abraham’s program to be priests to the nations. And ultimately how Joseph is a picture of Abraham’s Seed blessing the world and a type and shadow of Jesus Christ.

The phrase “Kingdom of God/Heaven” is mentioned about 120 times in the Gospels. And the Kingdom of God is mentioned about 30 times in the rest of the New Testament. It is the theme of much of the preaching and teaching of Jesus and the apostles. Central to what God’s redemptive work and purposes are all about! This morning we will begin digging into this subject by exploring what the kingdom is and how we become recipients of it. We will then turn to see how the Gospel of Matthew is constructed around five kingdom discourses. Powerful discourses which we will delve deeper into in the weeks to come!

In this message Pastor Josh covers some of the major themes and historical situation of Genesis 2-9. For what purpose did God create mankind? What was the significance of the original design of creation? What was the proper function of man in worship and work? What is the significance of “moving east” in Scripture? What did early worship in the land of Eden look like and how did Cain rebel against that worship? In what ways is Noah a “new Adam”? Listen in!

NEW YEAR PRIORITIES

It is a New Year! A season when many people will reevaluate what is going on in their life, set priorities, and begin new routines. At this time we are reminded that they are not getting any younger and want to make sure our priorities are in proper order. What should the priorities of the Christian be? I believe the Christian must prioritize Christ’s Word, Christ’s Love, and Christ’s Kingdom! As we do, our lives are being built on the solid foundation of the rock rather than shifting sands! Join us!

We begin our study by digging into the first chapter of the Bible—Genesis 1. Here we see God create both His heavenly and earthly home. God structures and fills His House. He brings His creation to completeness by dealing with the darkness, formlessness, and emptiness of His new world. Join us as we dig into why the themes and typology of Genesis 1 matters for the church and how the seven day creation pattern plays itself out throughout the course of biblical history.
